5 Best Osaka Coffee Places with Vegan Milk

Whether you’re a vegan coffee lover in Japan or simply want to find the best Cafes in Osaka, it can be hard to find a local place with vegan milk alternatives in Japan. Even if Starbucks Japan is one of the chains that has caved and offers vegan milks (along with Doutor and others), seeking out local businesses is half the fun of discovering a city and its people. Therefore, we are happy to present, from North to South, our favorite picks for a day of coffee hopping in Osaka!

  1. Haiku Coffee Roasters: Cafe near Umeda

Let’s start up North, Haiku Coffee Roasters is definitely one of the best coffee shops around Umeda - here you can enjoy a variety of drip coffees, chai tea with soy or almond milk and the occasional vegan cookie or muffin. When you enjoy your coffee here, you can admire the roasting process while relaxing in a lovingly decorated, calming spot. If you crave more baked goods, vegan bakery Sasanohapan is only a short walk away.

2. Kitahama Cafe: Brooklyn Roasting Company

Only a short train ride to the South, you can find the popular Brooklyn Roasting Company - Vegan Coffee around Honmachi. Not only can you get all coffee drinks with soy milk, this place also functions as a co-working space (you will see lots of MacBooks upon entering).

A definite highlight here is the location: on sunny days, you can enjoy your treat outside, while enjoying a view over the canal and Nakanoshima Rose Garden. If you want to try Osaka’s best vegan Karaage, you can just drop by the neighboring Optimus cafe before or after your coffee break.

3. Honmachi coffee: Vegan Cafe Sister

We keep going further South on our journey: you should definitely drop by Vegan Cafe Sister if you want to find one of the most instagrammable cafes in Osaka. Their cake specialties are like edible works of art and the coffees don’t fall short at all - the baristas will present you with latte art that vegans can usually only dream of. Make sure to stop by several times if you get the chance, as their cake varieties change by the day.

Cafe Sister is also located near two of Osaka’s most popular vegan eateries: Green Earth and Paprika Shokudo, both of which are a definite recommendation for hungry vegans in Osaka.

4. Granknot Cafe in Horie

The second-to-last spot on our journey is Granknot, a lovely place in Osaka’s fancy Horie neighborhood. Not only do they serve your coffee with alternative milk options, there is also plenty of seating for you to bring your friends along. While you sip away at your soy latte, you can also admire local artists’ artworks that are hung up and for sale here.

5. Cafe LA: Coffee Shop in Shinsaibashi

Humility is a virtue, but we dare claim that Cafe LA is one of the best places for vegan coffee lovers in Osaka. Not only can you choose between Soy, Oat, Rice, and Almond Milk but you also likely will meet like-minded people if you love board games.

To create a unique cafe in Osaka, we have the walls covered in blackboard paint - and chalk available for you to immortalize yourself during your visit. Since our opening in May 2021, events such as vegan pop-ups are not a rarity, where nearby businesses such as Canelita Sweets sell their goodies. If you want to switch it up from coffee a little bit, make sure to try the vegan Horchata, based on rice milk with cinnamon!

As you can see, Japan’s kitchen has a lot to offer when it comes to coffee shops with vegan milk alternatives - so there is no need to fall back on chains when you explore the lovely Kansai metropolis!

We hope you enjoyed this caffeine-fueled map of Osaka and to see you at Cafe LA soon!
